Believe And Act On The New Covenant

1 Samuel 17:45

“Then David said to the Philistine, ‘… I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

Ever wonder why two people can hear the same thing and yet have very different responses? For one, what is said makes him afraid and discouraged. For the other, his heart is so filled with faith that he dares to come against the devil and what he is doing.

In the Valley of Elah, Goliath the Philistine giant taunted the armies of Israel for 40 days. When David came on the scene, he heard the same mockings of Goliath that the rest of the Israelites heard. But somehow, those same words which caused fear in the soldiers angered David. What did David know or see that the others failed to see?

David knew that he had a covenant with God. Now, King Saul and all the soldiers with him that day also had the same covenant with God, but only David believed the covenant. And he acted on his belief. So God caused his giant to come tumbling down.

If David had such a great victory even though he was under the old covenant, how much more you and I who are under the new covenant! Today, God is asking, “Where are my Davids who will believe the new covenant?”

What is the new covenant? It is the covenant of grace. And grace means unmerited, undeserved, unearned favor. God wants us to know that He has cut this covenant with us through Christ our representative. And according to the covenant, we have His undeserved favor. We are blessed because Jesus took our beating. Because of what Jesus has done on the cross, we have victory over every giant.

Isn’t that good news? Today, God wants you to stand before your “giant” and declare that in spite of what you are going through, in spite of what is happening, you believe that God is for you because of what Jesus has done for you. And then, before your very eyes, you will see the giants of accusation, intimidation, condemnation, disease and debt fall flat before you!

Are You Religious?

It is amazing to me how many people that say they are followers of Jesus ( Christians ) are so hung up on the thing He condemned the most —  religion.  When He was walking this earth in flesh and blood  He was constantly coming against the religious attitudes the religious leaders and their followers had.  He accused them of keeping the people from entering the kingdom of God.  Jesus came to this earth to reveal to us the heart of the Father and give us LIFE and FREEDOM, not a religious system.  We seem to put more emphasis on the meetings and the writings in the Bible than we do on Jesus Himself and His Holy Spirit that He gave us to empower us with the same life He had.  He never intended to have us take the Bible and put it in the place of the Holy Spirit.  After all, He gave us the Holy Spirit shortly after He was crucified, but we didn’t get the printed Bible for over 1600 years.  Do you see where our focus should be?  He said to live by faith and walk in the Spirit.  All the stories we read about in the Bible about people who did great things for God did not have a Bible, but they did have faith and learned to hear the Spirit and obey.  Give me your thoughts on this.

Where Do You Get Your Significance?

One of the biggest problems you can have as a Christian is the battle in your mind over significance.

When Adam was first created he received his significance simply in his relationship with God.  When he ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and “his eyes where opened” things changed.  He lost that intimate relationship with God and had entered into the domain of Satan – the kingdom of darkness.

Bring it up to today –  we were all born into and lived in and were programed by the kingdom of darkness.  You sought your significance by focusing on yourself – what you did, how much money you had, what your job was, how you looked, etc.  This was life in the kingdom of darkness.  Then one day, you met Jesus, were born again, and entered his kingdom – the kingdom of God.  Your life began to change as your eyes became open to the kingdom of God – John 3:3.  You started doing “Christian things” instead of “worldly things”, but in most cases your perception of your significance did not change.  You still received your significance the same way you did in the kingdom of darkness.  By what you do, what you have, where you live, what kind of car you drive, what your job is, how much money you earn, what you look like, etc.  Even pastors can be guilty of this in that they may get their significance from being “a pastor” rather than simply in their union with God.

But your Father in heaven wants you to get your significance from your union with Him, not the way the world (kingdom of darkness) gets theirs.  Think about it.  Where do you HONESTLY get your significance from??

True Christians Are in Union With Jesus

Jesus said in John 15:5 – “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.”  Jesus was giving us a glimpse of what the New Covenant was all about.  A union between Him and us.  He would be the vine and we would be the branches attached to the vine.  The same life that is in the vine flows into and through the branches.  He is the vine and we are the branches.  If you’ve ever looked at a vine you have noticed that no fruit grows on the vine itself.  The fruit always grows on the branches that are attached to the vine.

Jesus is no longer on this earth in the flesh, but He is on the earth in His body called the “church” – those called out of darkness and brought into His covenant.  His life is the power that is within us by His Holy Spirit and does His works through us.  That is the fruit that is produced.  The healings, the miracles, the deliverances, the preaching that the kingdom of God is at hand, etc.  He is still doing it all, but His life and power is within us and flowing through us to accomplish His purposes.  He is the life and His life is within us and bears the fruit through us.

Philippians 2:13 —  “for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”

Ephesians 3:20 —  “Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we may asl or think, according to the power that works within us.”

Give me your thoughts.

You Were Made For Success

Life, as God designed it for you, is too valuable for you to waste on the ho-hum boring routine life most of us live.

God created you for greatness, for success, for health, for happiness and for fulfillment.

You were fashioned after God’s likeness and image.  You are a person who has incredible potential.  You are a person that has faith built right into them.  It is simply a matter of learning how to use that faith to achieve God’s purpose for your life.

There is too much for you to be, to have, to enjoy, to do.

To surrender that hope is to live far below your potential, to deteriorate, to waste your God-given life..

You were made for success, not failure, or despair, or poverty, or sickness !

Believe me when I say that God is your greatest supporter in life.  He is cheering you on to become all that you can be in covenant with Him.

He created you to live in union with you through the new covenant and to be “in you” by His Holy Spirit.
